FAQ
Â
How long has cheesescatsandherbs been running?
The idea came about in early 2003 and has been growing ever since.
Â
What areas of England does cheesescatsandherbs actually cover?
The main areas we cover are anywhere within realistic traveling distance of Suffolk (Norfolk, Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, Essex, London, Kent, Surrey etc). Most things happening outside this area dont really interest us, so we dont include it. This doesnt mean to say if you get in touch with us about something we wont include it on the site, its more of a case that we purely wouldnt hear about it otherwise? The sites forum is an open community remember that.
Â
Whats a URL?
"Abbreviation of Uniform Resource Locator, the global address of documents and other resources on the world wide web"
Â
A URL is essentially an address where something can be found. For instance when a file is uploaded (music, video, image etc) to a web server (where you can access it) that particular entity is assigned a destination address where you can get hold of it. To find the URL of a file located on a web server/page:
Right click on the link.
Select properties from the menu.
A properties box then appears with info on the type of file it is and the URL address this is what we need to link your file.
Will you video our band/event?
We dont do freelance filming. Although if you send us any material you have and we like your sound well come and see you play and possibly film if its alright by you?
Â
Can I get a copy of some video from cheesescatsandherbs?
No. Any footage cheesescatsandherbs makes stays solely the possession of both i and the band/s filmed. What you see on the site is what you get Im afraid although youre welcome to make requests for new footage to be posted.
Â
Do you have any plans for cheesescatsandherbs?
Short-term the site may be putting on one or two gigs/shows in the South-East of England over the summer featuring a range of excellent bands from across the UK. There's always things we are trying to implement on this site to make life easier for the rapidly growing obese population. Long-term I (Lewis) am off to university in Leeds later this year (2004), so will be extending aspects of the sites functionality to cater more toward the North of England. This will mean more media, gigs/shows, and news from both new and established UK bands more frequently.
Â
Do you make much money from cheesescatsandherbs?
Haha, no. Much as Id love to grow another head and say we have become rich, I cant. cheesescatsandherbs is not a money-making website. The amount of time and energy we all put into this thing far outweighs any financial gain. I started cheesescatsandherbs as a hobby and for the love of the music, and few like-minded people have come onboard along the way that share my beliefs that there are too many great UK bands touring our country and not being recognized for their talent at the moment. Any money that YOU invest in our site through advertising I assure you goes back into supplying you with all the fruits of the site as you see it today.
Â
Why is the video picture so dark?
This is nothing using the contrast and brightness settings on your player wont solve. Admittedly I am still fairly new to the concept of filming in dark venues with stupidly high levels of sound to cope with thats filming live bands for you! As time passes we will find a happy medium. If you have any constructive comments to make regarding any of the video on this site then get in touch preferably through e-mail and not embarrassing us in the forum, haha.
Â
Why is there only clips and not whole sets?
I don't know why people keep asking this. For a start web space isn't a bottomless pit, maybe if you lot invested some more cash in the site i.e. advertising - advertise your bum for all we care? Then you'd see more videos? Jokes aside; including bands whole sets is something we wouldn't pursue even if we had the time and resources - most of us have a life outside running this site you see. I suggest if you wanna see a band from heel to toe then go to their shows. I suspect that if we covered every show going some sad bastard would go to less shows because of it, and it's not what we're about. I myself often find videoing a pain because you're not in the pit dancing and getting the most from seeing a great band play live - this is why there's a few of us.
Â
Most shows we cover, we film the whole of the bands sets and then extract what we think are the best highlights. This is for three main reasons:
So we can offer the bands they're whole sets on film (band members jump on Lewis* - i will get round to it guys, promise).
So we can get the funny jibes you and the bands often throw at each other between songs on tape.
So we can spend extortionate amounts of cash on new DV-tapes.
Hmmm, where has my linked video gone?
cheesescatsandherbs ain't that serious about shit. We're usually pretty un-organised and shit happens. I won't go into technical detail, but, for one, i am constantly messing around with hardware and things go down occasionally. If what you want ain't up then tuff - download it and host it yourself. It really doesn't bother us what you steel from here - you'll probably do it anyways, so no point in stressing. Most important stuff that i and the bands value has ours and their mark plastered all over it anyways so...
Â
If you do decide to host something let us know about it, you're probably cool too? Make friends with us so if we're having trouble you can talk to us about it? The site is evolving constantly and until we can find something better to do with our time this won't change...girls apply >here<.
