Strategic Objectives
There are 5 strategic objectives to achieve the project's aim:
1. To develop the capacity of schools to deliver the global dimension
in the curriculum through:
- in-service & governor training
- access to information and resources
- helping teachers to develop greater awareness & understanding
of the global dimension, incorporating this into curriculum activities
- supporting the global dimension being written in to school development
plans
2. To create a framework for the effective provision of support for the
global dimension in education , ensuring access to services is available
to schools throughout the region through:
- web based information & educational resource support
- gaps in provision to be filled
- co-operation between partners to ensure efficiency & maximise
the provision of services within the limits of the resources available.
3. To engage the participation and co-operation of a wide range of stakeholders
in supporting the global dimension in education across the region, notably:
- Local Education Authorities
- NGOs including DECs and Development Agencies
- Other DE providers including 'Southern' and Black & Ethnic Minority
organisations and individuals
- Higher Education (HE) establishments in particular those involved
in Initial Teacher Education (ITE)
4. To develop the global dimension to Initial Teacher Education (ITE)
through the involvement of:
- ITE establishments
- DECs and other DE providers across the region
- Other appropriate partners (eg World Studies Trust & other national
bodies)
5. To provide a forum for the further development of pedagogy and good
practice in delivering the global dimension across the region through:
- Conferences & other regional or sub-regional events to consider
methodology & share good practice
- Focussing on, and disseminating good practise within particular areas
of expertise in the region eg North South School Linking, Forum Theatre,
Philosophy for Children, Education for Sustainable Development
- Newsletters, publications and web based forums for sharing knowledge
and experience
