Strategic Context
- The North West Regional Strategy for the Global Dimension in Education
forms part of the Department for International Developments Enabling
Effective Support Initiative. Under this initiative, Northern Ireland,
Scotland, Wales and eight English regions are developing and implementing
support strategies involving a wide range of bodies with an interest
in the Global Dimension in Education. The primary aim of all the strategies
is to build capacity within the UK education system to respond to the
challenges of preparing young people for life in today's globalised
society.
- Action for Sustainability (AfS)
is the Regional Sustainable Development Framework for the North West,
which aims to mainstream sustainable development and integrate activities
across the region. Underpinning this mainstreaming activity is the need
to raise awareness of education for sustainable development and the
objectives of the EES strategy directly input into this process. It
is anticipated that the objectives and targets developed by the strategy
will be incorporated into the AfS Action Plan and will be reported on
as part of the wider Regional Framework.
