North West Global Education Network

Aims & Objectives

Funded Projects

There is a small amount of money (a total of about £30k/year) available to fund projects which will contribute to the strategic aims of the network.

The allocation of money is decided by the project steering group according to the priorities for the region. We have held a series of forums to decide a strategy for each of four main themes. Thinking on these is still going on as part of the process of Action-Reflection so please input to these by email or in person! Once a project has been agreed the activity is put out to tender.

If you have an idea please contact Eddy Richards, the project coordinator, to discuss how to take it forward.

Projects funded so far include:

  • School Linking & Diversity Education conference
  • Strengthening the network in Merseyside
  • Southern Perspectives in Museum Education
  • Philosophy for Global Citizenship training
  • Global Dimension Resources leaflet
  • Capacity Building event for NGOs (especially BME organisations) wanting to work with schools
  • Foodprints research into food projects in the NW - Report (word document)
  • Philosophy for Children and School Inclusion - Case Study and Report
  • Research into engaging with regional government structures
  • Regional Newsletter
  • North West Regional Association of Citizenship Teachers events

It's difficult to define exactly what might be funded but generally speaking a project would need to fulfill some or all of these criteria:

  • Regional impact
  • Develop or extend partnerships
  • Development of pedagogy
  • Sharing good practice
  • Building sustainable capacity
  • Owned by teachers and schools
  • Innovative and effective
  • Complement national initiatives
  • Matching funding available

Most importantly it needs to help fulfill the overall aim of the strategy i.e. support teachers in incorporating the global dimension in their teaching. A project need not necessarily be regional in scope, for example a pilot project in one locality would be a possibility.

The amount of support available is not constrained other than by the total amount available. Clearly though value for money is a consideration!
